Faith an Element of Postulates A basis of religious understanding can be observed in the context of what in mathematics is called a “formal system”. A formal system is the root and foundation of a mathematical system. Even simple addition requires the logical base of a formal system: a language (symbols) and its grammar, a set of rules, and perhaps most importantly, a set of axioms.
